In the last edition of “Where are they now?” we caught up with the great man and former Brumbs skipper Brett Robinson.
And this week we catch up with another legend and Brumby #50, Ben Darwin.
What’s your favourite Brumbies memory?
Matt Weaver coming on in the 2001 final after about 20mins and absolutely killing it.
What are you doing for work, and how’d that come about?
I run Gainline Analytics with a Simon my business partner in Melbourne. It came about as I always struggled to rationalise the success or failure of teams. Also married to the lovey Elisabeth and have 4 kids.
Whats been the toughest part of retiring from Rugby?
I had it very easy in that I never got moved on. But it was hard to be on the outside looking in. Once your contemporaries retire it gets easier so I’m just waiting on Gits to give it away.
What would you tell your younger self at the start of your career?
Listen more, talk less. It took a few court sessions for me to figure that out.
Got a message for the past player community?
I had such a good time at the Brums and appreciate everybody that put time in with me particularly Youngy, and JP. I hope that everyone looks back at that time as fondly as I do.
Cheers Benny!
